The UN Ocean Decade emphasizes the critical importance of advancing science and policy for the sustainable use of ocean and coastal systems, while fostering the long-term development of the blue economy. Oceans and coasts underpin global trade, food security, biodiversity, human health, and cultural well-being, yet they are increasingly shaped by ecological pressures, economic restructuring, and new technological frontiers. At the same time, opportunities are emerging through sustainable industries, ecosystem-based approaches, and evolving international governance frameworks.
This Special Issue of Ocean & Coastal Management seeks to advance interdisciplinary research on how ocean-based economies are transforming and how societies can build resilience and inclusiveness through innovative strategies. We particularly encourage contributions that bridge economics, environmental sciences, law, and public policy, offering both global and region-specific perspectives.
